Reviews

  • Weakest of the whole series.

John Williams is an undeniable legend. His work on all of the Star Wars movies outside of Rogue One (different composer) have been exceptional. Even the Prequels with standout themes such as Dual of Fates, Across the Stars, And Battle of the Heros are incredible. For The Last Jedi however, the passion just doesn't seem to be there. I dont know if its becuase he's getting up there in years. Or if its becuase the source left little in terms of inspiration. While I stronly disliked the Last Jedi, the soundtrack wasnt bad but left no memorable impression. The best parts of the soundtrack are just rehashes of Rey's theme and Kylo Ren's from the Force Awakens. In my own opinion Revenge of the Sith had the best soundtrack overall with memorable themes throughtout the entire film. This movie however I cant recall a single new song. Maybe its time for John Williams to hang up the towel, or maybe he still has it in him. Time will tell.
  • Did they tell John Williams to play it safe?

Seriously? The movie itself was horrible as it’s just another Rebels vs Empire (Empire Strikes Back 2.0), but c’mon, no memorable soundtracks?! The Original and Prequel Trilogies had so many different tracks that I can think of right off the top of my head. This soundtrack was told to borrow a few themes from the original (no problem with that), but be as subtle as possible! I feel sorry for Williams as Disney is trying to play it safe with the Sequels with nostalgia and suppress any new Prequel-like ideas.

I watched the other Star Wars growing up. This is the first time watching the movie at the Theater. The music and cinematography was out of this world.
  • A much better score than TFA, even if the movie isn’t as good.

John Williams did a phenomenal job with this one, my personal favorite of the Star Wars scores.
  • Eh, it's a rehash

I typically love Star Wars scores, there is usually a theme that drives the musical elements throughout the score. Rey's Theme, or Across the Stars, are examples of this. Unfortunately, in Last Jedi, there is really no stand out songs that makes me want to buy the whole cd. Rebellion is Reborn, The Last Jedi, Peace & Purpose, and The Spark are the best songs on the track, where most of the other songs are lackluster and without a defining sound. Unlike previous albums where the Empire theme really gives the music a dark, devastating note, there is none of that here. I'm gonna pass and get the songs that are worthwhile.
  • Williams has done it again

Williams has done it again with another stellar score for Star Wars. Perfectly utilizing familiar themes while at the same time adding new ones, The Last Jedi’s soundtrack makes for one the best Star Wars soundtracks, rivaled only by those of the original trilogy.
