What is with everyone thinking Daft Punks new album is terrible, blah blah blah. Its a movie soundtrack, I mean, Imagine One More Time playing while the charachters fight each other. I mean, seriously.

Not being a long time fan of Daft Punk, I wasn't expecting anything in particular for the soundtrack. But this is probably the most listenable soundtrack I've heard. Each and every track is worthwhile, although I could do without the Jeff Bridges talking in the second track. The recording is very good as well; it sounds as good on earbuds as it does on my big home stereo and in the car. This is one of those albums where every track stands up well on its own but also provides an overarching theme that each track adheres to. Probably the best track is "Flynn Lives"; it's basically the signature overture that is heard again and again throughout the album. It's very dark, not particularly uplifting musically, but that's its function; I found that the music captures the main theme of the film which is one of noble self-sacrifice. So in that sense it can be viewed as inspirational rather than just depressing. The iTunes bonus tracks include the "Father and Son" which is placed rather awkwardly at the end. Do yourself a favor and reorder that track so it comes right after "Flynn Lives" as it does in the movie; the two tracks are complimentary and fit the mood of the film admirably. Really, the CD is practically worn out by now, I play it so much. Get it. Listen to it. Enjoy it.
  • Score makes the movie

I'll probably get flamed for this, but the original Conan is one of my favorite movies of all time. A big reason for this is how seamlessly present, and plot important the Basil Poledouris score is. At any time while listening to the soundtrack, I know what is happening in the movie. The same goes for this score by Daft Punk. It is stunningly brilliant. Without this score, the movie would not be what it is. As with all movie scores, very little stands on its own, but there are a few gems such as end of line, derezzed and son of flynn. Listen and enjoy

So many idiots here think this is some album or dance music it is not its film score. Daft purposely made it orchestral mixed with electronics. It's fits the film perfectly and I haven't heard something this good in a long time. I hope they make more film music cause they are seriously good at this.
